Drivers on Fraser Highway between 168 Street and 184 Street face overnight lane restrictions and possible full traffic stoppages until late September 2026 as beam installation continues for the Surrey Langley SkyTrain guideway.
The Surrey Langley SkyTrain traffic update posted May 21, 2026, says the work window runs from May 25 through late September. Work takes place overnight to minimize daytime traffic impacts.
This stretch east of Highway 15 sits between the future Bakerview-166 St Station and Hillcrest-184 St Station. Unlike the full Fraser Highway closure between 140 Street and 96 Avenue, this section stays open but with reduced capacity overnight.
What drivers should expect
Single-lane alternating traffic: Fraser Highway from 168 Street to 184 Street operates as single-lane alternating traffic Sunday through Thursday nights from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m. to prepare areas for beam installation.
Intermittent full stoppages: Traffic may be stopped for up to one hour at either location between 11 p.m. and 5 a.m. to safely deliver and lift beams into place.
Segment timing: The 168 Street to Highway 15 segment started early June 2026 and runs for two months. The Highway 15 to 184 Street segment started mid-June 2026 and runs for three months.
Alternate routes
The official advisory map shows three alternate routes around the work zone:
- 80 Avenue: North of Fraser Highway
- Highway 15 (176 Street): Through the corridor
- 184 Street: Eastern bypass
Business and residential access is maintained. Traffic control prioritizes local access in advance of active work areas.
What to expect
Temporary increases in noise are expected during overnight construction. Mitigation measures are in place to reduce noise and direct lighting to construction areas.
