Front Street Truck Route between Begbie Street and East Columbia Street in New Westminster is closed for approximately four months starting Monday, August 31, 2026. Crews are building a retaining wall along Front Street for the Pattullo Bridge Replacement project.

What road users should know
Closure: Front Street Truck Route between Begbie Street and East Columbia Street.
Window: Starting Monday, August 31, 2026, for approximately four months.
Regular traffic: Detour to Columbia Street. Follow signs and traffic control.
Trucks: Use official truck routes. Columbia Street is excluded from truck routes at all hours. Royal Avenue is excluded after 9 p.m.
Local access: Front Street Mews stays open. Access to downtown businesses is maintained.
Hours: Construction activities run 24 hours a day during this closure. Expect longer travel times and some nearby noise.
An additional Front Street Truck Route closure is anticipated in spring 2027 for Pattullo Bridge deconstruction over Front Street and the railway lines. That work is not part of this notice.
Who is affected
Anyone who normally uses Front Street Truck Route through downtown New Westminster needs the signed Columbia Street detour for the full four-month window. Truck drivers must stay on designated truck routes and avoid Columbia Street and after-9 p.m. Royal Avenue.
