Overnight Bridge Connector lane closures and Royal Avenue on-ramp closures, New Westminster

Drivers using Bridge Connector and the Royal Avenue on-ramp to the stal̕əw̓asəm (Riverview) Bridge in New Westminster should plan for overnight lane closures and on-ramp closures this week.

The Pattullo Bridge Replacement notice dated August 28, 2026, says crews are conducting finishing works on the Agnes-Royal multi-use path overpass.

What road users should do

Bridge Connector users: Expect intermittent overnight single-lane traffic through the work area. One lane in each direction will be maintained. Follow signs and traffic control personnel.

Royal Avenue on-ramp users: When the on-ramp is closed, take 6th Street to 6th Avenue, then McBride Boulevard to Bridge Connector. Detour signage will be in place.

Commercial vehicles: Follow designated truck routes as directed.

Bridge Connector overnight closures

Intermittent single-lane closures on Bridge Connector:

  • Started: Night of September 1, 2026
  • Duration: Approximately one week
  • Hours: 10 p.m. to 5 a.m.

Royal Avenue on-ramp overnight closures

The Royal Avenue on-ramp to the Riverview Bridge will be fully closed overnight:

  • Friday, September 4: 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.
  • Tuesday, September 8: 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.

The on-ramp nights complete the overnight finishing window that started September 1 on Bridge Connector.

Who is affected

Drivers using Bridge Connector and the Royal Avenue on-ramp should plan for delays. Emergency responders cannot use the Royal Avenue on-ramp during closures and will use the McBride Boulevard detour instead. Commercial vehicles are detoured to designated truck routes. Nearby residents may hear some construction noise. Multi-use paths are not affected.

This overnight Bridge Connector and Royal Avenue on-ramp work is separate from the multi-month Front Street Truck Route closure, which involves a different corridor and continues through late 2026.
