King George Boulevard southbound closes for the weekend Oct. 16 to 19

King George Boulevard southbound at the south end of the stal̕əw̓asəm (Riverview) Bridge is closing for a full weekend, from 9 p.m. Friday, October 16 to 5 a.m. Monday, October 19, 2026. Crews need the space to lay the final layer of paving on the new south approach bridge abutment. One northbound lane on the bridge also closes for the same window.

The details come from a Pattullo Bridge Replacement project notification dated October 6.

This is the first weekend where the Highway 17 off-ramp that opened in September becomes the only way off the bridge going south, so anyone who normally heads straight onto King George should plan the Tannery Road and Scott Road loop before Friday night rather than finding it at the barricades.

What to know

When: 9 p.m. Friday, October 16 to 5 a.m. Monday, October 19, 2026. The project says the work is weather dependent and will run 24 hours a day.

Southbound: King George Boulevard southbound is closed at the bridge. All southbound traffic on the stal̕əw̓asəm Bridge is detoured to the new Highway 17 off-ramp onto Highway 17 westbound.

Getting to King George Boulevard: The project says to take the Highway 17 off-ramp to Tannery Road, then 120 Street/Scott Road, then King George Boulevard. The map above shows that route.

Northbound: One northbound lane on the stal̕əw̓asəm Bridge is closed, so expect slower trips heading toward New Westminster too.

Walking and cycling: The project says there is no impact to multi-use paths.

Noise: Nearby residents will hear construction noise through the weekend.

What to do

  • If you cross the bridge southbound that weekend and are headed for King George Boulevard, follow the Highway 17, Tannery Road and Scott Road detour and give yourself extra time.
  • Check DriveBC before you leave, since the project says changes will be posted there and in traffic media.
  • Watch for another notice: the project says this work will be followed by a weekend northbound directional closure of the stal̕əw̓asəm Bridge, with details still to come.
