Drivers and truckers in New Westminster should note that Front Street Truck Route between Begbie Street and East Columbia Street is closed for approximately four months starting Monday, August 31, 2026.
The Pattullo Bridge Replacement notice dated August 14, 2026, says the closure supports retaining-wall construction as part of ongoing Pattullo Bridge Replacement work.

What road users should do
Regular vehicles: Detour via Columbia Street.
Trucks: Must use official truck routes. Columbia Street is excluded from truck traffic at all hours. Royal Avenue is excluded from truck traffic after 9 p.m.
Follow detour signage and traffic control personnel in the area.
Construction activities
Construction activities will occur 24 hours a day during this closure. The notice advises residents and commuters to expect longer travel times and increased noise during this period.
Future closure notice
An additional Front Street Truck Route closure is anticipated in spring 2027 for Pattullo Bridge deconstruction. A separate notice will be issued for that work.
