New Westminster West End paving: Seventh Avenue work runs to Oct. 16

Seventh Avenue between 18th Street and 20th Street in New Westminster's West End is being milled and paved until about October 16, 2026, weather dependent. The City says the work started around September 28 and would take approximately two weeks.

It is part of the second phase of restoration paving for the West End Sewer Separation and Watermain Replacement Project, which runs from August to November 2026. The City's official Phase 2 map marks the impacted roads.

The City's hours allow Saturday work from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., so West End residents parking on Seventh Avenue should watch for staging signs on the weekend too, not only on weekdays.

What to know

Where: Seventh Avenue from 18th Street to 20th Street. The wider Phase 2 paving area, shown on the City map, covers the 18th Street catchment from Tenth Avenue to Fifth Avenue, the 20th Street catchment (the area between 20th Street and 16th Street, from London Street to Fifth Avenue), and Sixth Avenue from 13th Street to 14th Street.

When: Seventh Avenue paving to about October 16. The City listed 18th Street (Eighth Avenue to Tenth Avenue) for completion by October 8 and Nanaimo Street (16th Street to 18th Street) by October 9. Overall restoration paving continues to November 2026. All dates are weather dependent.

Hours: Monday to Friday, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturdays, 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Impacts: Parking restrictions for staging areas, temporary road closures, traffic delays and sidewalk closures. The City says alternate access points will be provided and advance notice given.

What residents should do

  • Do not park in posted staging areas on Seventh Avenue and other impacted West End streets.
  • Allow extra time if you drive through the 18th Street and 20th Street area on weekdays or Saturdays.
  • Expect sidewalk detours on work blocks if you walk through the West End.
  • Check the City roadworks page before you go, since dates can shift with weather.

After paving, crews will do site restoration and clean-up. Questions go to the City's West End project team, listed on the City of New Westminster roadworks page.
