Expo Line riders heading through downtown Vancouver should build in extra time starting Saturday, July 25. TransLink says weekend maintenance will affect service until fall 2026, and riders travelling downtown should allow 20 extra minutes.
The work affects riders travelling through or using downtown Vancouver stations. Canada Line and Millennium Line service are not expected to be affected by this maintenance.
When service is reduced
TransLink says service between Waterfront and Commercial-Broadway stations will be affected during three weekly windows.
- Saturdays: from start of service to 10 a.m.
- Sundays: from start of service to 10 a.m.
- Sunday nights: from 9:30 p.m. until end of service.
The weekend timing matters for any rider travelling through or using downtown Vancouver stations during the posted windows. If your trip runs through downtown Vancouver at those times, add time before leaving.
Where riders should expect delays
TransLink's project page separates the service impact from the rail work zone. It says SkyTrain service between Waterfront and Commercial-Broadway stations will be affected during the posted weekend windows, while the downtown rail section scheduled for replacement runs between Waterfront and Stadium-Chinatown stations.
TransLink says riders should check station entrance screens for platform changes.
The agency also says customers should board the first available train toward their destination and transfer if needed. Its Transit Alerts page is the official place to check which Expo Line stations are affected.
Why the work is happening
TransLink says the weekend reductions are part of the LIM Rail Replacement Program. The work replaces the rail assembly used by SkyTrain's linear induction motors on the original Expo Line.
The rail project page says the downtown section is scheduled from July 25 until fall 2026. It also says the wider program will replace about 60,000 metres of LIM rail over several years along the 30-kilometre Expo Line.
Before leaving on a weekend morning or late Sunday night, check alerts, station screens, and trip-planning tools. The simplest move is to treat downtown Expo Line trips as slower during the maintenance windows until TransLink says the fall work is complete.
