The four projects are:
- Newton Community Centre: a new recreation, culture, childcare, and library facility near Newton Arena.
- 72 Avenue improvements and extension: road upgrades and a planned extension from 152 Street to Highway 15.
- Centre Block: a two-phase downtown office, retail, and academic development beside Surrey Central Station.
- City Centre Arena: a planned 10,000-seat arena and public plaza near King George Boulevard and 104 Avenue.

Newton Community Centre has a 2030 target
The city says the new Newton Community Centre is budgeted at $310.6 million and planned as a 175,000-square-foot facility. It is slated for the east side of King George Boulevard, south of the existing Newton Arena and near Newton Seniors Centre.
Surrey says the centre will include a 50-metre pool, leisure pool, hot tub, cold pool, two full-sized gymnasiums, fitness amenities, arts and childcare spaces, multi-purpose rooms, and an expanded library.
The project timeline lists site preparation complete and early works commencing in summer 2026, with construction completion expected in spring 2030.
72 Avenue work reaches into 2031
The 72 Avenue project is the road piece of Surrey's July 24 update. The city says the corridor is intended to improve east-west travel and link Newton, Fleetwood, Clayton, and Cloverdale.
Current project updates split the work into several segments:
- 144 Street to 152 Street: construction is underway, with completion anticipated in 2027.
- 152 Street to Highway 15: the first phase of preloading from 152 Street to Bear Creek is underway, with the new road anticipated to be complete in 2031.
- 188 Street to 196 Street: parking work has been completed on several side streets, with construction moving eastward from 188 Street and completion anticipated in fall 2026.

Downtown projects are still taking shape
Centre Block and City Centre Arena are the two downtown Surrey projects in the update.
For Centre Block, Surrey says phase one will include a 12-storey building with ground-floor shops, office space, a shared lobby, and the future SFU School of Medicine. The city says phase one construction is expected to begin in late 2026, with completion expected in 2030.
City Centre Arena is earlier in the process. Surrey says definitive agreements and design and permitting are expected in 2026/2027, construction is expected to begin in 2027, and arena construction is expected to complete in 2029/2030.
The city says the arena plan starts with a 10,000-seat arena and public plaza. Future phases led by private-sector partners are expected to include a hotel, restaurants, a coffee shop, spa, banquet space, residential towers, ground-floor retail, potential convention space, and additional entertainment amenities.
