A bridge along the Lynn Loop Trail in Lynn Headwaters Regional Park is closed. Metro Vancouver says it has structural damage and is no longer safe to cross, and asks visitors to consider other routes or be prepared to retrace their steps.

Metro Vancouver's October 2026 closure map marks the bridge on the Lynn Loop near the Lynn Loop Spur, with the label "Bridge Closed, DO NOT CROSS." Two other changes are in effect at the same park: the Baden-Powell staircase from Lynn Valley Road is closed until late November, and the paved parking lot is closed.

If the Lynn Loop was your plan, treat it as an out-and-back for now: walk in, turn around at the closed bridge, and leave the streambed bypass to experienced hikers on dry days.

What to know

Lynn Loop Trail bridge: Closed due to structural damage. Metro Vancouver says there is a rough, steep bypass through the streambed for advanced hikers, but visitors should use extreme caution and consider their abilities and the weather. During heavy rain or high water, the crossing could become impassable.

Baden-Powell staircase: The staircase from Lynn Valley Road that connects the Baden-Powell Trail to the park is closed for replacement and is not passable. Construction is expected to last until late November.

Paved parking lot: Closed to support construction. Parking is still available in the gravel parking lots and in designated roadside spaces. The road remains open to pedestrians and cyclists.

Headwaters Trail bridge: Also closed due to damage. Metro Vancouver says the creek is not safe to pass during or after times of heavy rain.

Park hours: 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. from October 6 to November 2, then 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. from November 3 to December 31.

What to do

  • Do not plan to cross the Lynn Loop bridge. Use other routes or be ready to retrace your steps, and follow posted safety signs.
  • Only advanced hikers should consider the streambed bypass, and not during heavy rain or high water.
  • If you usually reach the park on the Baden-Powell Trail from Lynn Valley Road, use the detour on Metro Vancouver's Neighbourhood Connector map, a route of about 3 km that uses Underwood Ave and the Valley Trail.
  • If you drive, expect to park in a gravel lot or a designated roadside space, and follow signs and instructions from work crews.
  • Bears are active in the park. If you see a bear, stay back 100 metres. Never feed a bear or leave food unattended.
  • Heading into the backcountry? Metro Vancouver says you need good route-finding skills, backcountry experience, good hiking gear and the 10 essentials, and to create a trip plan at AdventureSmart.
  • Check the Lynn Headwaters Regional Park page before you go. Metro Vancouver's West Area Office is at 604-224-5739. In an emergency, call 9-1-1.
