Thanksgiving Monday falls on October 12, 2026, and Delta residents have three separate schedules to track. Civic buildings do not all follow the same hours, curbside collection moves one day later for the rest of the week, and regional transit switches to holiday service.
The practical rule is simple: check the facility before leaving home, shift your curbside day by one day, and use TransLink’s holiday schedule for Monday.
Which Delta facilities are open on Thanksgiving?
Delta City Hall and the Delta Community Animal Shelter are closed on Monday. The North Delta Recreation Centre remains open for its regular hours, while the Municipal Services Office is closed.
That distinction matters if your trip combines recreation with City business. An open recreation centre does not mean municipal services are available. Plan recreation from the facility hours, and leave City business for a regular business day.
Delta’s notice says Parks, Recreation and Culture facilities are open for regular hours, while separately naming the closures listed below. The Douglas J. Husband Discovery Centre has a specific holiday schedule and is open from noon to 5 p.m.
Several community facilities are closed for the holiday:
- Tsawwassen Arts Centre: Closed Monday
- North Delta Centre for the Arts: Closed Monday
- McKee Seniors Recreation Centre: Closed Monday
- Kennedy Seniors Recreation Centre: Closed Monday
When is garbage and recycling collected?
Delta’s statutory-holiday collection rule delays the City’s listed curbside days by one day for the rest of Thanksgiving week. Materials still need to be at the curb by 7 a.m. on the revised day.
For a Monday statutory holiday, the City gives these three collection-day changes:
- Monday collection: Tuesday, October 13
- Wednesday collection: Thursday, October 15
- Thursday collection: Friday, October 16
Regular collection days resume the following week. The holiday shift applies to garbage and recycling collection. Residents whose usual day is not one of the three listed above should confirm their address in Delta’s collection guide.
How does TransLink run on October 12?
Bus, SkyTrain and SeaBus operate on a Sunday or holiday schedule on Thanksgiving Monday, according to TransLink’s current holiday notice. West Coast Express does not operate.
Holiday fares are also in effect. TransLink says a one-zone fare is enough for travel across all zones that day. Regular weekday service and fares return Tuesday, October 13.
TransLink’s Customer Service Centre, Access Transit Customer Care Office and Lost Property Office are closed Monday. Riders should check the Trip Planner or TransLink’s active service notices before leaving.
A quick plan for Monday
Confirm a facility’s hours before making the trip. If Monday is your normal curbside day, put materials out for Tuesday by 7 a.m. Transit riders should plan around the Sunday or holiday schedule and the absence of West Coast Express.
