Why these two beaches work as a half day
Jericho and Kitsilano sit on the same West Side waterfront. You can land by bus, walk one beach, follow the Seaside Seawall or Point Grey Road corridor to the other, and ride home without gambling on a scarce stall.
That is the point of this planner: two parks, one corridor, transit first.
Set expectations. Sunny weekends fill EasyPark lots early. Lifeguard season ends after Labour Day, so late September swimming is unstaffed. Kitsilano Pool is a separate seasonal facility on the west side of Kits Beach. Do not build the day around pool hours unless you confirm the Kitsilano Pool page the morning you go.
If you liked the seawall loops of Stanley Park or the market-and-waterfront walk of Granville Island, this is the West Side beach sibling that stays on the 4th Avenue bus corridor. For a farther harbour day, pair later with Steveston.
How to get there without a car
West 4th Avenue corridor (preferred)
Take a westbound bus on West 4th Avenue toward UBC / Point Grey. Public schedule materials and Trip Planner commonly show #4 (Powell / Downtown / UBC) and #84 (4th Avenue Express) on this corridor. Local runs such as #7 or #14 may also appear depending on your start point and the day. Treat Trip Planner as the source of truth the morning you go.
For Kitsilano Beach, alight near Yew Street on West 4th, then walk north a few blocks to Cornwall Avenue at the north end of Yew. The City of Vancouver Kitsilano Beach page places the beach there, with the Seaside Seawall alongside and Kitsilano Pool on the west side.
For Jericho Beach, stay on the corridor farther west and use Trip Planner stops near Wallace Street, NW Marine Drive, or Discovery Street. The City places Jericho Beach on the north side of Jericho Park at the west end of Point Grey Road between Wallace Street and Discovery Street. The east side of the beach is oriented to swimmers. The west side is oriented to sailboats and windsurfers near the Jericho Sailing Centre.
Treat door-to-beach times as typical, not guaranteed. West 4th traffic, UBC class peaks, and weekend crowds change the run. Build a buffer.
Confirm before you leave
Use TransLink Trip Planner or the Transit app. Do not invent a fixed minute count from your couch. Ask for the stop name you need, then walk the last stretch.
Driving and pay parking (if you skip transit)
Prefer the bus so the half day is not a parking hunt. EasyPark manages Park Board lots at both beaches. Overnight parking is not allowed in Vancouver parks unless otherwise posted.
EasyPark Lot 69 (Jericho area)

The McNicoll page notes Arbutus at McNicoll is gated 11 p.m. to 6 a.m. No overnight parking. Confirm the live EasyPark lot page before you go. Rates can change.
Hour-by-hour half-day outline
- Morning bus. Ride the West 4th corridor to Kits first if you want the busier beach and seawall energy, or start at Jericho if you want more grass and a quieter swim stretch.
- Kits Beach block (60-90 minutes). Walk the sand and Seaside Seawall. Use public washrooms. Note Kitsilano Pool is seasonal and separate. Confirm the pool page if a swim there is the goal.
- Link west (30-50 minutes walking). Follow the seawall / waterfront path toward Locarno and Jericho, or use Point Grey Road / park paths. Keep the pace easy.
- Jericho Beach block (60-90 minutes). East side for the swim-oriented sand. West side for sailing-centre views. Picnic tables and grass are part of the park offer on the City page.
- Return bus. Walk back to your West 4th stop with buffer before evening plans. Parks close at 10 p.m. unless otherwise posted.
Swap the order if Trip Planner drops you closer to Jericho first. The link still works eastbound toward Kits.
What to expect at each beach
Jericho Beach (City of Vancouver features)
Address area: north side of Jericho Park, west end of Point Grey Road between Wallace and Discovery. City-listed features include concession, public washrooms, playing fields, tennis courts, picnic tables, swimming raft, pay parking, seasonal lifeguards, and a water wheelchair (two attendants needed, Victoria Day to Labour Day). Jericho Sailing Centre and the HI Vancouver Jericho Beach Hostel sit on the park edge as partner facilities. Fishing or harvesting of bivalve mollusks is not permitted.
Kitsilano Beach (City of Vancouver features)
Address area: Cornwall Avenue at the north end of Yew Street. City notes the Seaside Seawall along the beach and Kitsilano Pool on the west side. City-listed features include concession, public washrooms, seasonal lifeguards, and pay parking. Fishing or harvesting of bivalve mollusks is not permitted.
Dogs, lifeguards, and rules
City of Vancouver park rules: hours 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. unless otherwise posted. Smoking is not allowed. Overnight parking is not allowed. Dogs are welcome in parks on-leash unless in a designated off-leash area.
Dogs are not allowed at beaches except designated areas at New Brighton, John Hendry (Trout Lake), Spanish Banks Beach, Sunset Beach, and Hadden. Jericho and Kitsilano are not on that beach-access list. Do not plan an off-leash beach run here. Locarno and Spanish Banks nearby have their own off-leash notes on the City dog page if that is your goal. Confirm dog off-leash areas before you go.
Lifeguards at Jericho and Kits run Victoria Day to Labour Day (late May to early September). Late September visits are unstaffed. Swim at your own judgment and check conditions.
Alcohol-on-beaches pilot materials on the City site show the beach alcohol pilot concluded. Do not assume beach drinking is allowed. Check current Alcohol on Beaches and Parks notices if that matters to your plan.
Food and cafes
City pages list concessions at both beaches. Operator hours change by season. This guide does not quote cafe or concession hours. Confirm the concession or any neighbourhood cafe directly the morning you go. Pack water either way.
Weather, crowds, and honesty
Sunny weekends fill Lot 66 and Lot 69 early. If you want quieter sand, go earlier on a shoulder day and arrive by bus.
Fall is strong for cooler walks and clearer mountain views across English Bay, but it is not a reason to ignore fade-to-dark timing. Parks close at 10 p.m. Plan to be at your return stop with bus buffer before you are tired and cold.
