Burnaby has a free park activity to put on the family calendar before the end of July. The City of Burnaby lists Art in the Park: Making Together as a drop-in summer community art program running July 27, 30, and 31 at five parks.
The practical draw is that no registration is required. Burnaby says everyone is welcome to drop in, try the activity, and stay as long as they like.
The five sessions to know
The first two sessions are on Monday, July 27. Burnaby lists Confederation Park from 1:30 to 3 pm and Charles Rummel Park from 5:30 to 7 pm.
Three more sessions follow later in the week:
- Thursday, July 30: Wesburn Park, 5:30 to 7 pm
- Friday, July 31: Edmonds Park, 1:30 to 3 pm
- Friday, July 31: Keswick Park, 5:30 to 7 pm
The city says participants should look near the spray park at each location for a pink Public Art sign.
What families can expect
Burnaby says the sessions are led by Public Art Roster artist Dawn Lo. This year's theme is Creatures of the Water, with participants invited to contribute drawings, writing, or poems to a collaborative illustrated river, or create a water creature to take home.
The city says materials will be provided, including pastels, acrylic paint pens, and construction paper. Setups can vary by park, so some activities may happen on the ground while others use picnic tables.
If comfort matters for kids, older relatives, or anyone who does not want to sit on the ground, Burnaby says participants can bring a blanket or portable seating. The city also says a videographer will be onsite on July 31 to capture footage for community storytelling, so families can factor that into the Edmonds Park and Keswick Park sessions.
