November is Vancouver's rainiest month: 186 mm of rain on average at YVR, more than five times July, on about 20 days, per Environment Canada normals.
November is Vancouver's rainiest month. At Vancouver International Airport, an average November brings 186 mm of rain, more than any other month, according to Environment and Climate Change Canada's 1981 to 2010 climate normals.
That is more than five times the rain of July, the driest month, which averages 36 mm.
How wet is an average November?
- 186 mm of rain (189 mm of total precipitation once snow, about 3 cm on average, is counted).
- About 20 days with measurable rain, meaning 0.2 mm or more. July averages about 6.
- About 11 days with 5 mm or more, and about 7 days with 10 mm or more.
How it compares with the rest of the year
January is the second rainiest month, at 157 mm, followed by December at 148 mm and October at 121 mm. A full average year brings 1,153 mm of rain at the airport, so November alone accounts for about 16% of it (our arithmetic).
What these numbers are, and are not
These are 30-year averages for one weather station, at the airport, for 1981 to 2010. They are Environment and Climate Change Canada's published normals for that station. Any single November can be much wetter or drier.
